MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531130242 A) filed by National Institute Of Technology, Patna, Bihar, on Dec. 22, 2025, for 'bridge pier live bed scour depth predictor with alert generation.'

Inventor(s) include Prakash, Satya; and Das, Bhabani Shankar.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a system (100) and method (300) for predicting live bed scour depth around a bridge pier. The system (100) includes a portable device (102) having a processor (104), a memory (106) storing scour measurement data and scour depth relationship, a normalizer (116) for transforming parameters to normalized values, a parameter selector (120) for identifying parameter combination by minimizing gamma value and V_ratio value, a computation unit (122) for generating scour depth ratio (ds/y), an input interface (114) for receiving hydraulic and sediment parameters, a display interface (124) for presenting results, and an alert unit (126) for generating warning signal when the scour depth ratio (ds/y) exceeds predefined safety threshold. Unlike conventional empirical approaches with limited accuracy under field conditions, this approach enables accurate live bed scour depth prediction through physics-informed scour depth relationship, achieving reliable assessment for bridge pier safety applications."
