MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521113705 A) filed by Rakhi Jaykumar Bharadwaj; Grishma Sujit Hajirnis; Aanushree Gupta; Ritu Vijay Gorle; and Shraddha Dilip Golhar, Pune, Maharashtra, on Nov. 19, 2025, for 'blockchain-verified food quality tracking system using esp32 microcontroller, dht22 temperature-humidity sensor, mq-135 voc sensor, and machine learning- based spoilage prediction.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention relates to a real-time food-safety monitoring and verification system designed to ensure hygienic handling and preservation of perishable food products, particularly in decentralized food environments such as street-food vending and small food establishments. The system incorporates Internet of Things (IoT) sensors to continuously measure critical environmental parameters, including temperature, humidity, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are key indicators of food spoilage. Sensor data is transmitted wirelessly to a backend server, where a machine-learning model analyzes the information and predicts spoilage risk based on historical and real-time conditions. To ensure transparency and reliability, each data entry is converted into a cryptographic hash and stored on a decentralized blockchain ledger, preventing unauthorized alteration of safety records and enabling public verification. A web-based user interface provides real-time monitoring, historical analytics, spoilage-risk notifications, and blockchain-verified food-safety logs. The system allows vendors, regulators, and consumers to confidently assess food-quality status and take timely action when necessary. By integrating continuous sensing, predictive analytics, and tamper-proof record-keeping, the invention significantly enhances food-safety assurance, strengthens regulatory oversight, and promotes consumer trust in informal and small-scale food-service environments."
