MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122911 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 5, 2025, for 'blockchain-based cross-platform interoperable voting system with self-sovereign identity.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a blockchain-based cross-platform interoperable voting system (300) that includes a self-sovereign identity module (302) configured to generate decentralized identifiers (304) for voters on an Ethereum blockchain and manage verifiable credentials (306) issued by trusted authorities, wherein the verifiable credentials (306) are stored in voter-controlled wallets (308) and verified using W3C-DID and W3C-VC standards. The system includes a blockchain layer (310) having smart contracts (312) for automating voter registration, ballot casting, and vote counting processes, and an InterPlanetary File System storage component (316). The system further includes a cross-chain interoperability module (318) implementing a Cosmos Inter-Blockchain Communication protocol (320) and blockchain bridges (322). The system also includes a decentralized application (324) having a React frontend (326) and REST API layer (328), and blockchain nodes (330) configured to maintain a distributed ledger through consensus mechanisms."
