MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641042452 A) filed by Srm Valliammai Engineering College, Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, on April 02 for 'bladeless pole shaped vortex wind power generator.'
Inventor(s) include V. Sudhagar; Kishore V; Sibivishnu G; Yashwanth Srihari L; and Devesh Kumar A.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An energy harvesting system is proposed for converting vehicle-induced airflow along highways into usable electrical energy, wherein modular electromechanical devices are mounted along roadside poles or central barriers so that a motion-capture element such as a vane-like plate or pendulum-style arm oscillates in response to transient gusts generated by passing vehicles; this oscillation is transmitted to a spring-loaded oscillating member that reciprocates in a constrained to~and-fro motion, and a ratchet-based transmission mechanism converts the bidirectional oscillatory motion into unidirectional rotational motion, thereby mechanically rectifying the input kinematics; the unidirectional rotation is coupled to a generator operating on the principle of Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction, producing electrical energy suitable for low-power roadside applications such as signage, sensors, or auxiliary lighting; the modular nature of the system allows deployment of multiple units in an array along the highway, enabling scalable harvesting of energy from otherwise wasted vehicle-induced turbulence without requiring additional land use or disrupting traffic flow."
