MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621014171 A) filed by Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, Vadodara, Gujarat, on Feb. 9, for 'bituminous mix composition for road construction.'
Inventor(s) include Venkateswarlu Chintala; Sachinkumar Makwana; Pradeep Kankeri; and Himanshu Gohel.
The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Bituminous mix composition for road construction The present invention discloses a bituminous mix composition derived from pyro-char. Pyrolysis plastic char, a typically underutilized by-product of plastic pyrolysis, is incorporated as a partial replacement for traditional mineral fillers in bituminous mixes. This approach enhances the mechanical, thermal, and rheological properties of the bitumen, including increased Marshall Stability, improved softening point, and optimized air void content. The invention involves systematically replacing filler with plastic pyrolysis char at varying percentages (3%, 5%, 8%, and 10%) and evaluating the modified mix through standard tests such as Marshall Stability, penetration, ductility, and density. The invention offers a dual benefit by repurposing single-use plastic waste into a value-added material and producing high-performance bitumen suitable for durable and environmentally sustainable road construction."
