MUMBAI, India, Aug. 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517057278 A) filed by University Of Nottingham, Nottingham, U.K., on June 14, for 'biosynthesis of plastics precursors.'
Inventor(s) include Bryan, Samantha; Spence, Edward; Reitzer, Pierre; Pordea, Anca; Croft, Anna; and Conradie, Alex.
The application for the patent was published on Aug. 1, under issue no. 31/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention provides a method for the preparation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural or a derivative thereof and 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid comprising the step of biocatalytically converting at least one carbonaceous feedstock supplemented with glucose to 5-hydroxymethylfurfural or a derivative thereof and 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid also via intermediates like glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate and 4-hydroxymethyl-2-furancarboxaldehyde-phosphate using Streptomyces sp. S deposited as NCIMB 43995 and gene MfnB encoding (5-fromylfuran-3-yl)methyl phosphate synthase (EC 4.2.3.153) isolated from said strain."
The patent application was internationally filed on Nov. 16, 2023, under International application No.PCT/GB2023/053015.
