MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541123040 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 5, 2025, for 'bioinformatics method for identifying shared genetic architecture between major depressive disorder and psoriasis.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Faraz Ahmad; and Ms. Arpita Banerjee.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a computer-implemented method for identifying shared genetic architecture between medical conditions. The method extracts gene sets associated with first and second medical conditions from a genomic association database using respective identifiers. A shared gene set is identified through Venn diagram intersection analysis to determine common genes. A molecular interaction network is constructed using the shared gene set, with nodes representing encoded proteins and edges representing protein interactions. Network analysis algorithms including centrality algorithms are applied to identify hub genes with high connectivity. Functional enrichment analysis is performed on hub genes using Gene Ontology enrichment analysis and pathway analysis to characterize biological pathways shared between the medical conditions."
