MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641051375 A) filed by Sr University, Warangal, Telangana, on April 22, for 'biodegradable nano-silica reinforced mulch film composition for weed suppression and preparation method thereof.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Disclosed herein is a composition (100) for biodegradable nano-silica reinforced mulch film, the composition (100) comprises a biodegradable polymer matrix (102) to form structural base of the composition (100), a plurality of nano-silica particles (104) present in a predefined concentration and configured to reinforce the biodegradable polymer matrix (102) and improve mechanical strength of the composition (100), a plurality of biodegradable plasticizers (106) to enhance flexibility of the mulch film. The composition (100) wherein the biodegradable polymer matrix (102) comprises a polylactic acid (108) and a starch (110). The composition (100) may include the plurality of nano-silica particles (104) are present in a predefined concentration ranging from 1% to 5% by weight. The composition (100) may include the plurality of nano-silica particles (104) having particle size less than 50 nanometers. The composition (100) may include the composition (100) having a thickness in the range of 30 micrometers to 60 micrometers."
