According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Biocomposites from Dairy Wastes useful for Making Biodegradable Cutlery and a Process for the Preparation Thereof The invention provides biocomposites from dairy waste useful for making biodegradable cutlery and a process for the preparation thereof. In particular, the instant invention provides biodegradable cutlery from dairy wastes like casein and ghee residue, and their process of preparation. It provides a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to conventional single use plastic tableware for manufacturing completely biodegradable tableware/cutlery from dairy industry waste, i.e. casein extracted from effluent/spoilt milk and ghee residue. Key advantages include cost-effectiveness from using waste; avoidance of plasticizers/chemicals, lesser number of unit operations; and high biodegradability and compostability. The invented cutlery contributes to sustainability by reducing plastic use and valorizing dairy waste and also provides additional revenue channels for the dairy sector and aligns with global environmental efforts."
