MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631062049 A) filed by Assam Down Town University, Guwahati, Assam, on May 15, for 'bioactive-rich food composition with standardised apple peel powder and method for preparation thereof.'
Inventor(s) include Miss. Niva Swargiary; Dr. Radali Duarah; and Dr. Yashmin Nongrum.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to the development and standardisation of value-added food products using apple peel (Malus domestica) powder as a functional ingredient. Apple peels are processed by drying and pulverisation to obtain a fibre- and antioxidant-rich powder, which is incorporated into confectionery and savoury food formulations at levels ranging from 30% to 80% by weight. An optimised pop stick candy formulation containing approximately 70% apple peel powder exhibits enhanced nutritional value, antioxidant activity, and superior sensory acceptability compared to conventional products. The invention further evaluates short-term shelf-life stability under different packaging conditions, demonstrating improved quality retention in polypropylene packaging. The disclosed process enables sustainable utilisation of apple processing by-products and provides a low-cost, scalable approach for producing nutritionally enriched, consumer-acceptable food products."
