MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641042473 A) filed by Vels Institute Of Science, Technology And Advanced Studies, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on April 2, for 'bio-synthesis of silver nanoparticles using halymenia dilatata for anticancer applications.'
Inventor(s) include P. Amudha; and M. Thavamani.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising biosynthesized silver nanoparticles derived from marine red algae, namely Halymenia dilatata, and a method for preparation thereof for application in breast cancer therapy. The algal extract serves as a natural reducing and stabilizing agent for the formation of nanoparticles, enabling an eco-friendly and biocompatible synthesis process. The resulting silver nanoparticles exhibit defined physicochemical characteristics and are configured to demonstrate anticancer activity. The invention further encompasses evaluation of the nanoparticles using biological and computational approaches to assess efficacy and interaction mechanisms. The disclosed composition provides a sustainable and effective nanomedicine solution with improved therapeutic performance."
