MUMBAI, India, Aug. 8 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202421007142 A) filed by Giesecke+Devrient Mobile Security Germany GmbH, Munich, on Feb. 2, 2024, for 'ber-tlv file based method for over-the-air modulation of field-deployed smart cards.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Disclosed herein is a method for secure OTA updating of field-deployed UICCs using BER-TLV encoding. In response to a requisition for fixing or enhancing a business or cryptographic function, a modified BER-TLV object (corresponding to OS functional component or crypto library) is generated OFF-card and, after validating at a central facility for compatibility to the recipient UICCs, is transmitted using embedded protocols to said UICCs. Once received at the UICC, the validated modified BER-TLV object is decrypted, verified by checksum, and applied to replace the legacy BER-TLV object (corresponding to existing OS functional component or existing crypto library) and successfully completing the update."
