MUMBAI, India, Nov. 21 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441038725 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group Ag, Stuttgart, Germany, on May 17, 2024, for 'battery pack.'
Inventor(s) include Amarja Joshi; Sujith Stephen; Anandakrishnan Shivaprabha; Saravanan Muthuvel; Sunanda Medapati; Gannamani Naga Venkata Surendra; and Shivani Uttamrao Aware.
The application for the patent was published on Nov. 21, under issue no. 47/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure relates to a battery pack (100). The battery pack comprises a plurality of battery cells (102) and a plurality of packets (200) positioned on a top surface (102a) of adjacent battery cells of the plurality of battery cells (102) to mitigate thermal propagation. Each packet of the plurality of packets (200) comprises at least one fuse wire (202) wound around packet (200), an actuator (204) inserted into the packet (200) and connected to the fuse wire (202). The actuator (204) is configured to rupture the packet (200) depending on temperature of adjacent battery cells (102) or vent gases. The packet (200) is adapted to receive dry powder, such that when temperature of the battery cells (102) or vent gases increases beyond a threshold value, actuator (204) ruptures the packet (200) to force release the dry powder on battery cells (102) to mitigate thermal propagation."
