MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531132745 A) filed by Asansol Engineering College, Asansol, West Bengal, on Dec. 28, 2025, for 'bathroom guardians smart bath slip shield mat.'
Inventor(s) include Mr. Sudip Kumar De; Dr. Avishek Banerjee; and Dr. Sheuli Chakraborty.
The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A non-wearable bathroom safety and water-saving system is disclosed. A thin floor mat integrates a two-dimensional pressure sensor array and wetness sensing to estimate human presence, compute a slip-risk index, and classify fall events. An inline flow sensor and a controllable shutoff valve interface with a tap or shower. A controller performs on-device machine learning to fuse pressure, wetness, and flow features to distinguish attended from unattended water use and to detect falls. When unattended flow or a fall is detected, the controller actuates the valve to reduce or stop water and issues local and remote alerts. The system supports manual override via foot-tap gestures, adapts to individual users over time, and operates with low-power electronics in a sealed, washable mat suitable for humid environments. The invention reduces bathroom-related injuries and water wastage while preserving privacy and enabling low-cost retrofit deployment."
