MUMBAI, India, Nov. 21 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517098959 A) filed by Carlsberg A/S, Kobenhavn, Denmark, on Oct. 14, for 'barley with improved properties.'

Inventor(s) include Dockter, Christoph; Lu, Qiongxian; Braune, Katarzyna; Thomsen, Hanne Cecilie; Rasmussen, Magnus Wohlfahrt; Jorgensen, Morten Egevang; Pedas, Pai Rosager; and Knudsen, Soren.

The application for the patent was published on Nov. 21, under issue no. 47/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention relates to barley plants having a high a-amylase activity and fast - glucan degradation during malting. The barley plants of the invention may for example carry a point mutation in the CXE2L1 gene, wherein said mutated CXE2L1 gene encodes a mutant CXE2L1 polypeptide. The invention further provides plant products prepared from said barley plants."

The patent application was internationally filed on Apr. 30, 2024, under International application No.PCT/EP2024/061822.
