MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621014864 A) filed by Darshitbhai Savaliya; and Harshil Faldu, Rajkot, Gujarat, on Feb. 11, for 'bar coupler with inside thread and notch.'
Inventor(s) include Darshitbhai Savaliya; and Harshil Faldu.
The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention titled "Bar coupler with inside thread and notch" provides a bar coupler (10) for mechanically connecting two metal reinforcement bars (26, 28) in construction. The bar coupler comprises a cylindrical body with a longitudinal bore (12) extending from a first open end (14) to a second open end (16). A first internally-threaded portion (18) extends inwardly from the first end and a second internally-threaded portion (20) extends inwardly from the second end, both carrying threads of the same hand but advancing in opposite directions. A central notch region (22) is naturally formed where the two same-hand thread paths converge, overlap, and cross each other, creating a thread geometry incompatible with the bar threads. The notch acts as a mechanical stop ensuring equal insertion depth of both bars, causes the bar ends to physically abut for direct bar-to-bar load transfer as the primary load path, and provides self-locking without external components. The outer surface (34) features knurling for grip and filleted end edges (38, 40) for stress distribution. The invention further provides a transition coupler (50) for connecting bars of different diameters. The coupler is compatible with upset-forged and threaded reinforcement bars and accommodates both simultaneous and sequential assembly methods."
