MUMBAI, India, Sept. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517080345 A) filed by Terumo Kabushiki Kaisha, Tokyo, on Aug. 25, for 'balloon catheter.'

Inventor(s) include Iguchi Akira; and Kurosaki Yasuo.

The application for the patent was published on Sept. 12, under issue no. 37/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A balloon catheter according to the present disclosure comprises a long member and a expansion member that is supported on the outer surface of the long member and is capable of expanding outward in the radial direction of the long member. The balloon catheter is additionally provided with the following from the inside toward the outside in the radial direction: a laser emission unit capable of emitting a laser toward the outside in the radial direction; a transmission section through which the laser radiated from the laser emission unit can be transmitted in the radial direction; and a light absorption section capable of absorbing the laser after the transmission thereof through the transmission section. The laser emission unit, the transmission section, and the light absorption section are provided only to the long member, only to the expansion member, or in a distributed manner to both the long member and the expansion member."

The patent application was internationally filed on Feb. 15, 2024, under International application No.PCT/JP2024/005324.
