MUMBAI, India, June 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311083563 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group Ag, Stuttgart, Germany, on Dec. 7, 2023, for 'backing plate for a clutch assembly in a vehicle.'
Inventor(s) include Sirajul Musthafa; and Johannes Schulz.
The application for the patent was published on June 13, under issue no. 24/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A clutch assembly 100 for a vehicle includes a set of first plates 102; a set of second plates 104 configured concentrically and alternately arranged in a stack 106. A backing plate 200 is positioned at one end of the stack 106 to provide a support to the stack 106 as a force 'F' is applied to the plates from the other end of the stack 106. The backing plate 200 includes a radially extended flat portion 202 and an axially oriented ring portion 204 forming a hook-shaped cross section. One end of the ring portion 204 works as a support end 206 and may project beyond the support surface 208 of the flat portion 202 towards the stack 106 by a predefined distance 'D2' to ensure uniform contact between the stack 106 and the backing plate 200 under the force 'F' applied to the stack 106."
