MUMBAI, India, Feb. 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641017378 A) filed by R. M. K. Engineering College, Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu, on Feb. 17, for 'autonomous water surface cleaning robot.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Vijay Anand K; Prem Pradeep S; Aishwarya K; Dhaneshwara M; Gokulrajan R M; Harini M; and Poojashree T.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 27, under issue no. 09/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Water contamination is a major hazard to aquatic ecosystems and urban water infrastructure, with moving waste such plastic, organic matter, and non-biodegradable elements accumulating quickly in lakes, canals and reservoirs. Traditional cleaning processes rely largely on personal labor or big fuel-powered containers, which are not only inefficient and costly, but also unsustainable over time. The objective of the present invention is to develop an autonomous water surface cleaning robot to tackle water pollution in stagnant as well as slow-moving water bodies like ponds, lakes, rivers, and canals with surface waste, such as plastics and aquatic vegetations like water hyacinths."
