MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541123208 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 6, 2025, for 'autonomous navigation robot with servo-mounted ultrasonic scanning and path retracing.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Shanmugasundara M M; and Mr. Tarique Zahir Hussain.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides an autonomous navigation robot system having a mobile platform with chassis and wheels, a processing unit executing navigation algorithms, an ultrasonic sensor measuring distances to obstacles, a servo motor coupled to the sensor enabling rotational scanning, motor control means controlling platform movement, and memory storage logging movement data including direction and duration. The processing unit controls the servo motor to rotate the ultrasonic sensor for directional scanning when obstacles are detected within a predetermined threshold, determines optimal navigation direction based on distance measurements from scanning, controls motor means to execute movement commands based on the determined direction, and implements a path retracing algorithm utilizing logged movement data to navigate back to starting position by executing reverse movements in opposite sequence."
