MUMBAI, India, Jan. 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511104214 A) filed by Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab, on Oct. 29, 2025, for 'autonomous ai-based drone system for offshore wind turbine inspection and maintenance.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention discloses an autonomous AI-based drone system (100) for inspection and maintenance of offshore wind turbines. The system includes a hybrid navigation unit (102) combining GPS, LiDAR, radar, and SLAM for accurate positioning; a multi-modal sensor module (104) for optical, thermal, ultrasonic, and corrosion analysis; an artificial intelligence engine (106) for real-time defect detection and predictive analytics; and a robotic maintenance module (108) for on-site cleaning, sealing, and coating. An energy management unit (110) and autonomous charging subsystem (112) enable continuous renewable operation. A cloud-based platform (114) manages inspection data, integrates with SCADA systems, and coordinates drone fleets (116). The invention reduces human risk, turbine downtime, and maintenance costs while enhancing efficiency, scalability, and sustainability of offshore wind energy operations."
