The application for the patent was published on Feb. 13, under issue no. 07/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The growing urban population, rapid industrialization, and increased consumerism have contributed to an unprecedented rise in solid waste generation globally. In India alone, approximately 1.5 lakh tonnes of municipal solid waste (MSW) is generated every day, with per capita waste generation increasing annually by 1.33% (CPCB, 2020). Improper segregation at source is a major factor behind the inefficient processing and disposal of this waste. The primary objective of this invention is to design and develop an intelligent, low-cost, and automated system for real-time segregation of household or institutional waste into dry, wet, and metallic categories using sensor-based technology."
