MUMBAI, India, Sept. 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411019165 A) filed by Teerthanker Mahaveer University, Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, on March 15, 2024, for 'automatic thread cutting device for sewing machine.'

Inventor(s) include Shreshta Bandhu Rastogi.

The application for the patent was published on Sept. 26, under issue no. 39/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An automatic thread cutting device for sewing machine, comprising a rectangular shaped body 1 configured with a C-shaped clamp 2 for affixing body 1 to needle portion of sewing machine, an artificial intelligence based imaging unit 3 in synchronization with an ultrasonic sensor d determines fabric is stitched, two telescopically operated rods 4 extend for positioning a motorized roller 5 near fabric for pulling out fabric from needle portion, multiple U-shaped slots 6 carved over body 1 and a telescopic gripper 7 passes fabric/thread along with thread and pass through slot 6 as detected by a touch sensor mapped within each slot 6, a slider crank arrangement 8 configured with multiple blades 9 to cut thread, a microphone 10 accessed by user for feeding voice command regarding insertion of thread and accordingly gripper 7 grips and inserts a free end of thread within needle."
