MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122563 A) filed by Easwari Engineering College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 5, 2025, for 'automatic pneumatic vehicle bumper.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. K. G. Ashok; and Mr. D. George Thamizharasan.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention.discloses an automatic pneumatic vehicle bumper system (101) designed to enhance vehicle safety by actively reducing frontal collision forces through rapid sensing and actuation. The system integrates a pneumatic mechanism (201) and an electro.nic control program (301) operating a double-acting cylinder linked to the bumper assembly (102). An infrared proximity sensor detects obstacles and sends signals to a microcontroller, which activates a 5/2 solenoid I 0 valve to channel compressed air into the cylinder, extending the bumper before impact. This motion increases deformation distance and reduces stress transmitted to the vehicle structure. Finite-element simulations (401) show improved deformation control and energy absorption -compared to-conventional ourhpers, wliile the working prototype (50 1) confirms accurate sensing, rapid pneumatic response, and stable retraction. The invention provides a lightweight, low-cost, 15 and energy-efficient safety mechanism adaptable for modern and autonomous vehicles, representing a practical advancement in active automotive safety technology."
