MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511102893 A) filed by Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab, on Oct. 25, 2025, for 'automatic drill bit sharpening system with ai-based angle detection temperature monitoring and smart control.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An Automatic Drill Bit Sharpening System (100) integrates a laser-based angle detection sensor (102), motorized grinding assembly (104), temperature sensor (106), vibration sensor, and microcontroller (108) to restore worn drill bits to optimal cutting angles. The system clamps drill bits in a self-centering chuck and continuously measures cutting geometry, adjusting grinding speed, pressure, and tilt automatically. Temperature monitoring prevents overheating, while vibration detection optimizes motor control to prolong tool life. A touchscreen interface allows input of material type and edge geometry for adaptive operation. The integrated closed-loop control ensures consistent sharpening across various materials, reduces downtime, minimizes waste, and enhances operator safety. The system is suitable for machine shops, manufacturing plants, training workshops, and retail hardware, providing automated, precise, and safe drill bit maintenance."
