MUMBAI, India, Oct. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411024827 A) filed by Chandigarh Group Of Colleges, Mohali, Punjab, on March 27, 2024, for 'automated watermelon cutting device.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Charu Mehan; Dr. Maninder Gill; Naina Agarwal; and Alisha Garg.

The application for the patent was published on Oct. 31, under issue no. 44/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An automated watermelon cutting device, comprises of a platform 1 positioned on fixed surface in proximity to a water melon, a touch enabled screen 2 installed on the platform 1 for input commands, an artificial intelligence-based imaging unit 3 mounted on the platform 1 for capturing and processing images, pair of L-shaped telescopically operated rods 4 installed with the platform 1 for gripping the watermelon, a robotic arm 5 installed with the platform 1 for cutting the watermelon, a pair of telescopically operated grippers 6 configured with the platform 1 for gripping and positioning the halves, a pair of motorized sliders 7 installed on the frame for translating rectangular sharped members, a motorized pivot joint 8 configured between bar and frame for tilting the frame, plurality of pneumatic blades 9 are installed with the members for cutting the slices into the pieces."
