MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611051609 A) filed by Manav Rachna University, Faridabad, Haryana, on April 22, for 'automated waste segregation apparatus.'

Inventor(s) include Ms. Yogeeta; Ms. Muskan; Mr. Chaitanya; and Dr. Awwab Mohammad.

The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Disclosed is an automated waste segregation apparatus including a housing having an inlet opening through which an individual waste item is introduced and a classification region positioned downstream of the inlet opening. A sensor array including a moisture sensor, a Near-Infrared sensor, and a load cell is directed toward the classification region for obtaining sensing data associated with the waste item. A controller processes the sensing data to determine whether the waste item corresponds to wet waste, dry waste, or plastic waste. A motor-actuated diversion mechanism positioned between the classification region and multiple waste compartments redirects the classified waste item into a selected compartment corresponding to the determined waste category. The apparatus enables automated segregation of individual waste items during disposal through coordinated sensing, classification, and mechanical diversion within a single integrated system."
