MUMBAI, India, April 20 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411073969 A) filed by Chandigarh Group Of Colleges, Mohali, Punjab, on Sept. 30, 2024, for 'automated universal joint cross installation device.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Harvinder Singh; Swarn Singh; Dr. Avtar Singh; Radhika; Sampark Sharma; and Sarandeep Singh Karki.

The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An automated universal joint cross installation device, comprising a platform 1 positioned on a fixed surface, an elongated container 2 is accessed by a pair of robotic arms 3 to grip a shaft stored in the container 2, a slot 4 is accessed by the arms 3 for positioning the gripped shaft on the slot 4, an artificial intelligence-based imaging unit 5 determine dimensions of the shaft on the platform 1, a motorized clamping unit 6 grip end of the shaft where the joint is to be installed, an angle sensor integrated on the platform 1 monitors angle of the joint cross with respect to cavities crafted at end of the shaft, a hydraulically operated L-shaped bar 8 with a hydraulic plunger 9 to apply pressure on the sleeves for securing the joint cross at end of the shaft."
