MUMBAI, India, Oct. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411023148 A) filed by Chandigarh University; and Chandigarh University Technology Business Incubator, Mohali, Punjab, on March 24, 2024, for 'automated underground pipe repairing device.'

The application for the patent was published on Oct. 31, under issue no. 44/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An automated underground pipe repairing device, comprises of a platform 1 installed with a touch interactive display panel 2 for providing input regarding a particular length of an underground pipe from where the pipe is to be repaired, an imaging unit 3 to determine location of the user-specified length of the pipe, a telescopically operated rod 4 to extend/retract for positioning a circular disc 6 in proximity to the surface at the location, a motorized drilling unit 5 to drill a cavity on the surface at the location, a motorized circular sliding unit 7 to translate the drilling unit 5 along the sliding unit 7, an IR (infrared) sensor for monitoring exact location of leakage on the pipe, and a hydraulically operated L-shaped bar 8 to extend for striking a blade 15 on both sides of the exact location of pipe to cut an appropriate length of the pipe."
