MUMBAI, India, Oct. 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411022634 A) filed by Chandigarh University; and Chandigarh University Technology Business Incubator, Mohali, Punjab, on March 22, 2024, for 'automated turtle shell barnacles removal device.'

The application for the patent was published on Oct. 24, under issue no. 43/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An automated turtle shell barnacles removal device, comprising a platform 1 accommodates a turtle between two motorized expandable clamps 2 installed on platform 1 via a pair of L-shaped telescopically operated rods 3, a touch enabled screen accessed by user to give input commands for removing barnacles from shell of turtle, an artificial intelligence-based imaging unit 4 detects dimensions of turtle and accordingly clamps 2 expand for gripping turtle on platform 1, a wedge-shaped blade 5 is positioned near barnacles by an L-shaped telescopically operated link 6 and motorized sliding unit 7 and followed by extension/retraction of link 6 for providing a to-and-fro motion to blade 5 for scrapping off barnacles from shell, a pair of motorized ball and socket joints rotates clamps 2 for positioning turtle in an upside-down orientation on platform 1 for removing barnacles from belly of turtle."
