MUMBAI, India, Feb. 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641017864 A) filed by Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute Of Science and Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Feb. 17, for 'automated subway spring water harvesting and reuse system.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. S. Baskar; Dr. D. David Neels Ponkumar; and K. Palani.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 27, under issue no. 09/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses an automated subway spring water harvesting and reuse system for industrial and institutional campuses. The system comprises a subway trench collection assembly configured to capture underground seepage water and direct it into a collection sump. A transfer pump conveys the collected water through a multi-stage filtration architecture including sand and carbon filtration units, and optionally a membrane-based purification module. Filtered water is stored in a reservoir and distributed for domestic and utility applications. An automated pump control mechanism incorporating level sensors regulates pump operation to prevent overflow and dry running. Reject water from membrane purification may be redirected for secondary industrial uses. The integrated configuration enables structured recovery of underground spring water, reduces groundwater extraction, and supports sustainable water management within campus infrastructure."
