MUMBAI, India, Oct. 11 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411020113 A) filed by Chandigarh University; and Chandigarh University Technology Business Incubator, Mohali, Punjab, on March 18, 2024, for 'automated pomegranate dehusking device.'

Inventor(s) include Ashish Nathaniel Noel.

The application for the patent was published on Oct. 10, under issue no. 41/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An automated pomegranate dehusking device, comprising a platform 1 positioned on a ground surface, a slot 2 configured on the platform 1 for accommodating a pomegranate, a circular ring 3 configured on the platform 1 for properly accommodating the pomegranate, an artificial intelligence-based imaging unit 4 mounted on the platform 1 to detect presence of waste part of the pomegranate, multiple robotic links 5 assembled on the ring 3 for cutting waste part by means of a blade attached with the links 5, a robotic gripper 6 installed on the platform 1 to grip and position pomegranate halves over a sieving plate 7 arranged on the platform 1 and a rectangular flap 8 configured on the platform 1 for providing thumping movement over the cut pomegranate in order to separate seeds from the pomegranate."
