MUMBAI, India, Oct. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411023151 A) filed by Chandigarh University; and Chandigarh University Technology Business Incubator, Mohali, Punjab, on March 24, 2024, for 'automated pencil sharpening device.'

The application for the patent was published on Oct. 31, under issue no. 44/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An automated pencil sharpening device, comprising a platform 1 installed with an inverted U-shaped frame 2 which is installed with a ring 3 configured with a cylindrical hollow member 4 developed to be accommodated with a pencil, a microphone 6 to receives voice commands for sharpening pencil, a laser acuity sensor detects diameter of pencil, a motorized iris lid 7 securely grip pencil, an artificial intelligence-based imaging unit 8 detects exact location of tip of pencil, a pneumatic blade 9 installed with platform 1 via a motorized hinge, which tilts blade 9 and followed by extension of blade 9, and a motorized slider 10 translates ring 3 in a to-and-fro manner for scrubbing tip of pencil against blade 9 to sharpen tip of pencil."
