MUMBAI, India, Oct. 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411022638 A) filed by Chandigarh University; and Chandigarh University Technology Business Incubator, Mohali, Punjab, on March 22, 2024, for 'automated pecking training device for woodpeckers.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A automated pecking training device for woodpeckers, comprising a cylindrical structure 1 integrated with plurality of curved plates for encircling the structure 1 around trunk of a tree, a motorized roller 2 configured with the structure 1 to rotate for tightening/loosening a looped strap for affixing the structure 1 on the trunk, an artificial intelligence-based imaging unit 3 installed on the structure 1 to detect presence of a woodpecker on the trunk, plurality of curved members 4 integrated on the structure 1 each secured by means of a one-way flap 5 to allow the woodpecker to access food present inside the members 4 and a color changing fabric 6 fabricated on the structure 1 to attain the monitored color in order to camouflage the structure 1 on the trunk."
