MUMBAI, India, Aug. 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411010781 A) filed by Chandigarh Group Of Colleges, Mohali, Punjab, on Feb. 15, 2024, for 'automated onion harvesting device.'
Inventor(s) include Gurkirat Singh Bhatia; Aniket Gupta; Abhishek; Arvind Kumar; Jashanpreet Singh; and Roshan Kumar.
The application for the patent was published on Aug. 29, under issue no. 35/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An automated onion harvesting device, comprising a housing 1 positioned over a ground surface in proximity to an onion field to be harvested, an artificial intelligence based imaging unit 2 installed on the housing 1 to generates a 3D (Three-Dimensional) map of the field via the aid of a touch interactive display panel 3 installed over the housing 1, an inclined platform 4 arranged on a side of the housing 1 and configured with multiple tines 5 to provide tilting to the tines 5 for accommodating leaves of the onions, a blade 6 configured with the platform 4 to cut the accommodated leaves, a motorized wiper 7 configured over the platform 4 to discard the cut leaves over the surface and plurality of telescopic grippers 8 arranged beneath the platform 4 to extract the onion from the surface."
