MUMBAI, India, Sept. 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411020675 A) filed by Shobhit Institute Of Engineering & Technology, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, on March 19, 2024, for 'automated manhole cover removing device.'
Inventor(s) include Nidhi Tyagi; Varun Bansal; Avinav Pathak; and Kuldeep Chauhan.
The application for the patent was published on Sept. 26, under issue no. 39/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An automated manhole cover removing device, comprises of a platform 1 positioned on a road and installed with a touch enabled to give input commands for removing cover of a manhole in proximity to the platform 1, a camera 5 mounted on the platform 1 for capturing multiple images of surroundings, motorized omnidirectional wheels 6 configured underneath the platform 1 for maneuvering the platform 1 in a manner to align the disc 3 over the manhole cover, an ultrasonic sensor arranged on the disc 3 for detecting diameter of the manhole cover, an expandable pulley arrangement 7 configured with the disc 3 for increasing/decreasing diameter of the disc 3 as per the detected diameter of the manhole cover, and a DC (Direct Current) motor coupled with the disc 3 for rotating the disc 3 in view of drilling the road around the manhole cover."
