MUMBAI, India, Sept. 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411018860 A) filed by Teerthanker Mahaveer University, Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, on March 14, 2024, for 'automated earthworms extraction device for soil surface.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An automated earthworms extraction device for soil surface comprises of, a cuboidal body 1 positioned on a soil surface, multiple motorized omnidirectional wheels 2 for moving the body 1 on the soil surface, a touch enabled screen 3 to give input commands for extracting earthworms from the soil surface, an imaging unit 4 for detecting dimensions of the soil surface, a pair of L-shaped telescopically operated rods 5 to extend and insert in soil surface, a pair of vibrating units for generating vibrational sensations to lure the earthworms towards top of soil surface, a wedge-shaped plate 6 for collecting soil along with the earthworms on the plate 6, a motorized hinge 7 installed on the body 1 via wedge-shaped plate 6 for tilting and partially inserting the plate 6 in the soil surface, and a tray 8 via a vibrating arrangement 9 for sieving soil from the tray 8."
