MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641007272 A) filed by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on Jan. 24, for 'automated biomedical waste segregation with integrated classification and dispensing.'

Inventor(s) include Suresh, Vishnu; Poonchola, Rohit Vishnu; Malarvizhi, Samyuktha Bharanidharan; Rajesh, Riya; Rajagopal, Vishnuvarthan; and Murali, Ritwik.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a system (100) for segregation of biomedical waste and a method (300) for automated classification and dispensing of waste items. The system (100) includes a bin body (102) with multiple sub-bins (126) arranged around a central axis (114), a camera (104) with an embedded classification model (104-4) for generation of classification output (106), at least one first motor (108) for rotation of the central axis (114), at least one second motor (112) for operation of a flap (118), and a controller (110) for coordination of classification and dispensing operations. Unlike conventional waste segregation systems that rely on cloud-based processing or manual intervention, the present disclosure achieves real-time on-device classification without transmission delays while ensuring automated dispensing into color-coded sub-bins (126) and minimizing direct human contact with hazardous biomedical materials."
