MUMBAI, India, Sept. 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411019420 A) filed by Teerthanker Mahaveer University, Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, on March 15, 2024, for 'assistive paper cutting device.'

The application for the patent was published on Sept. 26, under issue no. 39/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An assistive paper cutting device, comprising a cylindrical shaped body 1 accommodated with a roll of paper that is required to be cut, a laser sensor detects diameter of roll, multiple motorized hinge joints 4 orients body 1 for proper accommodation of roll inside body 1, two flaps 5 allows user to pull out a free end of paper roll, an ultrasonic sensor detects passage of free end, multiple motorized pop up balls 6 arranged inside body 1 to unwind paper from roll, a touch interactive display panel 7 accessed by user to input details regarding length of paper to cut from roll and accordingly balls 6 rotate to unwind paper as detected by ultrasonic sensor, a L-shaped rod 8 extends and positions a blade 9 underneath paper, and a double-rack gear arrangement 10 provides linear motion to rod 8 for cutting paper."
