MUMBAI, India, Sept. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411014275 A) filed by Chandigarh Group Of Colleges, Mohali, Punjab, on Feb. 27, 2024, for 'assistive device for ascending and descending staircase.'

Inventor(s) include Ramandeep Deorda; Ravinder Singh; Rachin Goyal; and Gurjesh Singh Chib.

The application for the patent was published on Sept. 12, under issue no. 37/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An assistive device for ascending and descending staircase, comprising of a platform 1 positioned over a fixed surface, a plate 2 is arranged over platform 1 by means of a pair of C-shaped channel 3 to provide a space to accommodate a disabled user in need of ascending staircase, an artificial intelligence based imaging unit 4 for capturing images of surroundings, a pair of telescopic poles 5 to provide support to user while accommodating over plate 2, an ultrasonic sensor to determine height of landing of staircase, multiple hydraulic rods 6 to extend in view of lifting platform 1 at an appropriate height to position plate 2 parallel to landing of staircase, a pair of motorized extendable sliding unit 7 to position user over landing of staircase, and a speaker 8 to generate voice notifications for guiding user during ascending staircase."
