MUMBAI, India, Sept. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202421015098 A) filed by Serum Institute Of India Private Limited, Pune, Maharashtra, on Feb. 29, 2024, for 'assay for determination of functional immunity against salmonella.'

Inventor(s) include Asha Dinesh Mallya; Vinay Vijay Gavade; Somnath Vasant Sargar; and Avinash Bhanudas Chavan.

The application for the patent was published on Sept. 5, under issue no. 36/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to the field of Serum Bactericidal Activity (SBA) assay for 5 Salmonella spp., particularly S. Typhi and S. Paratyphi for determining the functional antibody titre. The improved SBA assay of the present invention is simple, cost effective, robust, less time consuming, consistent, precise and accurate. A method of Serum Bactericidal Activity (SBA) assay comprises: preparing a media and a buffer; preparing a bacterial stock and diluting the bacterial stock; adding the buffer, a test serum, a complement and the bacterial stock in the 10 buffer on a plate; incubating the plate; and calculating antibody titre. Said method utilizes specific advantageous parameters related to media type, O.D., Buffer type & Complement Concentration as compared to previous conventional assays. The present invention also relates to the immunogenic composition as tested by the SBA Assay method and a kit for performing the SBA assay. 15 S.TYPHI: COMPLEMENT CONCENTRATION USING HBSS- WITH 1% FBS C': Complement control, HIC: Heat Inactivated Complement Control, % Killing: (HIC - C')/ HIC* 100 20."
