MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641024851 A) filed by Society For Innovation And Development; and Ministry Of Heavy Industries, Bengaluru, Karnataka, on March 2, for 'apparatus and method for producing spherical metal powder.'
Inventor(s) include Kh, Thulasi Raman; Diwakar, J E; Dagale, Haresh; and Chatterjee, Kaushik.
The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Disclosed herein is an apparatus having a wire feed mechanism (102,106,108) configured to advance a metal wire (104) along a feed axis. An induction preheating subsystem (112) i elevates the temperature of the metal wire (104) to a preset target temperature prior to plasma jets (306) exposure. At least three plasma torches (116) arranged circumferentially about said feed axis and oriented obliquely toward the metal wire (104) and adapted to converge plasma jets (306) at an atomization focal zone to form molten droplets. An atomization chamber assembly (200) disposed below the plasma torches and adapted to quench the formed molten droplets. An automation control system (600) receives feedback from said temperature sensing subsystem and to adjust at least one of torch power, induction heating power, and wire feed rate in real time to maintain a stable melt condition based on consistent droplet formation for plasma-based production of spherical metal powder."
