MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511001072 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Jan. 6, 2025, for 'apparatus and method for mineralization of carbon dioxide with alkaline solids.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses an apparatus and method for the mineralization of carbon dioxide using alkaline solids. The apparatus comprises a rotating drum reactor (100) equipped with helical coils (100a) and linear baffles (100d), a screw conveyor (200), a vacuum drum filter (300), a coarse particle filter (400), and an absorption column (500). The rotating drum reactor includes rotary couplings (101, 102) for introducing and withdrawing gas (2a, 5a), liquid (3), and solid or slurry streams (1, 4a, 4b), enabling continuous counter-current solid-liquid contacting. This configuration provides high carbonation efficiency and facilitates separation of fine carbonated solids (6a) and coarse carbonated solids (6b) for further utilization. The device is particularly suited for industries generating carbon dioxide and alkaline residues, enabling simultaneous CO2 capture and stabilization through formation of mineral carbonates."
