MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641006926 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Jan. 23, for 'apparatus and method for automatic medicine dispensing.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides an apparatus (102) and a method (300) for automatic medicine dispensing. The apparatus (102) includes a storage module to store medicines. The apparatus (102) includes an automatic dispensing mechanism to identify and dispense medicines from the storage module. The apparatus (102) includes an interface module to receive user inputs and generate an invoice. The apparatus (102) includes a controller (118) configured to operate the automatic dispensing mechanism and the storage module, where the controller (118) is configured to receive the user inputs. The controller (118) is configured to determine via an optical character recognition (OCR) unit (114), information from one or more prescriptions. The controller (118) is configured to in response to a determination that the one or more prescriptions are valid, identify and dispense medicines from the storage module. Further, the controller (118) is configured to generate the invoice and record the purchase."
