MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641050562 A) filed by Easwari Engineering College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on April 21, for 'app privacy scout: a browser based privacy protection tool.'
Inventor(s) include Lakshmi Vignesh S; Sachin K; and Dr. V. Balaji.
The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The rapid growth of mobile and web applications has increased privacy and security risks, as users often grant excessive permissions and accept complex policies without understanding them. Existing tools rely on server-side analysis, lack transparency, and fail to address modern browser-based threats. This paper presents App Privacy Scout, a browser-based privacy risk assessment tool that performs fully local, client-side analysis of web applications. It evaluates privacy policies, permission usage, and browser API behavior to detect risks such as deceptive UI patterns, drive-by downloads, background sync abuse, and unauthorized microphone access. The system uses a rule-based approach to classify risks into Red, Yellow, and Green levels and provides actionable recommendations. Built on a privilege-separated extension architecture, it ensures strict isolation, zero data exfiltration, and minimal overhead. Experimental results show improved user privacy awareness while maintaining compatibility with modern browser security models."
