MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122650 A) filed by Dr. M. G. R. Educational & Research Institute, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 5, 2025, for 'antioxidant and barrier-enhancing gel formulation incorporating butterfly pea extract and niacinamide.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Disclosed is a topical antioxidant and barrier-strengthening gel formulation comprising niacinamide and Butterfly Pea (Clitoria ternatea) flower extract incorporated within an aqueous carbomer-based gel matrix. The formulation utilizes deionized water, glycerin, Carbomer 940, niacinamide, anthocyanin-rich Butterfly Pea extract, phenoxyethanol-ethylhexylglycerin preservative system, disodium EDTA, and triethanolamine for pH adjustment to 5.5-6.0. The synergistic combination of niacinamide and the botanical extract delivers enhanced antioxidant activity, anti-inflammatory effects, improved skin-barrier integrity, and complexion-brightening performance. The gel provides a smooth, non-sticky texture, high spreadability, aesthetic consumer acceptance, and stability without phase separation. The formulation is designed to overcome limitations of conventional herbal and synthetic skincare products by offering improved stability, multifunctional efficacy, and a safe dermatologically compatible profile. This invention further supports broad cosmetic applications involving skin protection, hydration enhancement, and mitigation of oxidative and environmental stress."
