MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611002315 A) filed by Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab, on Jan. 8, for 'antimicrobial self-sterilizing toothbrush cap system.'

Inventor(s) include Kirti; Arpita; and Soni Singh.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 13, under issue no. 07/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention relates to an antimicrobial toothbrush cap system (100) designed to sterilize and protect toothbrush bristles between uses. The system incorporates a protective housing (102) that encloses the brush head and contains integrated antimicrobial material (104) for passive microbial suppression. Within the housing, a UV-C LED module (106) provides active germicidal irradiation powered by a compact power supply (108). A proximity sensor (110) automatically detects insertion of the toothbrush and initiates a controlled sterilization cycle. To reduce moisture accumulation and support drying, strategically placed ventilation ports (112) permit airflow while minimizing contaminant entry. The combined passive and active disinfection mechanisms provide enhanced hygiene, reduced microbial exposure, and improved safety compared to traditional toothbrush covers."
