MUMBAI, India, Aug. 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411005915 A) filed by Council Of Scientific And Industrial Research, New Delhi, on Jan. 29, 2024, for 'antifungal formulation for leaf spot in broccoli.'
Inventor(s) include Nidhin P T; Mohini Sharma; Rajendra Gochar; Zabeer Ahmed; and Meenu Katoch.
The application for the patent was published on Aug. 1, under issue no. 31/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The over-dependence on synthetic chemicals for crop protection has brought up a lot of challenges, including antimicrobial resistance, health hazards and environmental toxicity. Essential oils have been reported for crop protection applications. Moreover, Previous studies have reported that in the combination of EOs, the pathogens rarely develop resistance to multiple components of two or more. Foliar pathogens are responsible for more than 70% of Brassicaceae losses yearly. Our invention demonstrates a synergistic combination of Monarda citriodora essential oil and isoeugenol for controlling the foliar pathogen of broccoli causing leaf spot. The combination showed significant curative and protective effects against leaf spot compared to Bavistin."
