MUMBAI, India, Feb. 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541121563 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 4, 2025, for 'anticancer potential of lupeol:mechanisms of action and therapeutic applications.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. R. Susmitha; and Dr Ramya Mohan.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 6, under issue no. 06/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "In the present invention, the invention relates to the anti-cancer therapies of lupeol, a naturally occurring triterpenoid, against cancer. The invention introduces molecular mechanisms of lupeol, its upregulation of the apoptotic pathway, downregulation of oncogenic signal cascades (the cascades of the PI3K/Akt, Wnt-bcta-catenin and NF-kappa B), and its inhibition of metastasis and angiogenesis. The present patent furnishes also novel pharmaceutical compositions containing lupeol used alone or in combination with other anticancer agents, with improved therapeutic activities against cancer; such as prostate, breast, colon and pancreatic cancer."
