MUMBAI, India, Feb. 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541133503 A) filed by Dr. Mahalingam College Of Engineering And Technology, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 30, 2025, for 'anti corrosion coating with oil spraying and air drying mechanism for knuckle manufacturing industri.'
Inventor(s) include P. E. Kamalakkannan; and S. Anthony Jesudurai.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 27, under issue no. 09/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "In knuckle manufacturing industries, the knuckles are manufactured and packed for marketing and sales. Iron parts of the knuckle are exposed to air, the moisture content in the air makes the rust formation and corrosion over the parts of knuckle. Over time, this exposure leads to the formation of rust or corrosion, which can significantly weaken the strength of the material, reduce its lifespan, and cause unexpected breakdowns or failures. Without proper protection, equipment performance drops, maintenance costs rise, and the overall productivity of the industry takes a hit. To avoid the rust formation, before packing the equipments, if oil is sprayed over the knuckle and drying of oil will be made, then rust formation will be avoided for period of time while the component is stored or not used. To address this issue, an automated oil-spraying and air drying system is designed and development to apply anti-corrosion coating to knuckles. The system uses a simple yet effective gravitational conveyor mechanism to move parts through the oilcoating and drying process, eliminating the need for electric motors or complex drive systems. This approach not only saves electricity consumption but also reduces maintenance costs associated with various types of motor-driven conveyors such as belt, roller and chain conveyors. In this approach the automated oil spray and air drying uniformly covers the surface and ensures consistent protection, while also reducing material waste. Compared to manual methods, this setup is more timeefficient, eco-friendly, and suitable for continuous operation in small-scale industries as it minimizes the labour efforts considerably by reducing the operational downtime but also improves coating consistency and corrosion resistance. The main advantage of this invention is low-cost, reduced the space, simultaneously complete the oil spraying and drying process in knuckle packing system. Additionally, the invention provides the features like integration with IoT sensors for remote monitoring, automatic knuckle detection, manual oil spray adjustment based on component size, and tracking of data in manufacturing unit for maintenance planning."
